The oldest building in Delft is the tower of the town hall. This dates from the 13th century and is popularly called 'Het Steen'. The current town hall was built around Het Stelen in 1618-1620. In 1246 Delft received its city rights but never received the mint right. Nevertheless, in the 16th century emergency coins, so-called poor tokens, were allowed to be minted.
